Dear Applicant

I welcome your expression of interest in the position of Principal at Rotherham College of Arts and Technology.

The College is currently in a good position both academically and financially, and this has been achieved through a dedicated and knowledgeable Corporation and a strong and well led Senior Management Team working together to bring the College to its current position. The working relationship we have created is one of open information and scrutiny to achieve the best possible outcomes for our students, the community and our partners.

Our Principal, George Trow, has led the College through some difficult times to achieve the current strong position and his dedication and integrity is reflected at all levels through the workforce. Recent years have seen high levels of growth and achievement and we expect our new principal to build on this success, continuing the drive forward to give our students the best that education can offer, and by showing the same dedication and leadership skills.

KEY INFORMATION

Financial

The College has been in Outstanding financial health for a period of three years, however as a result of abortive costs in 2008/09 the current official status is Good. The forecast shows movement back to Outstanding in 2010/11. The College has significant reserves built up over a number of years, some of which are planned to be used for a small new build project.

Inspection information

The Ofsted Inspection Report is now some four years old and the Annual Monitoring visit does not reflect the progress now made.
The self assessment report has been externally validated by an H.M.I and is confirmed as Good overall.

Train 2 Gain
success rates are high and additional contract work has been given due to the quality of the delivery.

Work Based Learning

No areas below Minimum Levels of Performance and on an upward trend.

New Build Project

You may be aware we had a bid for complete build of the town centre campus placed 14th equal on the list of those approved, we have picked ourselves up and with significant reserves launched a new project which will be the first of a five phase build. Phase one completion August 2011. Other phases will happen when money becomes available in the future. College will keep significant reserves throughout the project and service a modest loan. New build projects have been completed in the last two years at Rother Valley Campus and are not subject to loans.

External Partnerships

Local partnerships are strong and the current Principal is Chair of the Learning Partnership and member of the Children and Young Peoples Board in Rotherham and Rotherham Partnership Board. Relationships with the Local Authority are strong. Local links with stakeholders such as the Chamber of Commerce are also solid and bring many benefits. The other two Colleges in Rotherham work with this College very well, with clear partnership activities in place.

I hope that the information about Rotherham College of Arts and Technology enclosed will excite you about the opportunities at the College and that we will receive your application shortly.

Joan Brier,
Chair of Corporation
